Hose connections reinvented

October 17, 2018 By Ken Korane Leave a Comment

The Quick-Connect system is an easy-to-install and cost-effective alternative to conventional hose connection fittings, according to officials at ARGO-HYTOS, Kraichtal, Germany. Tubes and hoses equipped with these connections can simply be plugged into the appropriate adapters by the user and fixed with enclosed locking clips. This assembly sequence is significantly faster than the steps required for conventional fittings, and no tools are needed.

The ARGO-HYTOS Quick-Connect system is an alternative to conventional hose connection fittings.

Safety and integrity of the connection are paramount, said company officials. For the user, it is immediately apparent from the snapped-on locking clip that the connection has been correctly installed on the mating piece. It is not necessary to specify and control a tightening torque.

The locking clip prevents a hose from being pulled off the adaptor. In the radial direction, however, the line remains rotatable. In many applications this represents a further advantage, because the line can thus be positioned as free of stress as possible. In contrast, hose that is installed twisted or poorly routed tends to have a shorter working life.

Likewise, narrow and tight space conditions are safely controlled by a minimum hose distance and by the rotatability of the hose line. Users also see cost benefits by dispensing with hose fittings and screw-in adaptors, and from weight reduction versus bulky metal connectors, in addition to reduced assembly times.

Components of the Quick-Connect kit

The ARGO-HYTOS modular Quick-Connect system was introduced several years ago for use in large-series agricultural and construction machines. The system is suitable for both suction and return lines and has been proven countless times in many different applications in the field.

More than 20 different connections are now available in a range of sizes and shapes. Engineered plastic construction and sealing geometry are selected in such a way that the connections can also be reliably installed to metal adaptors. This makes for an attractive product range which offers the right connection for practically every application, said the company. And the Quick-Connect kit is often provided directly to the hose supplier. This way, customers receive assembled lines ready for installation.

The products are designed to handle a temperature range of -30° to 100° C (-22° to 212° F), with short-term excursions up to 120° C (248° F). Operating pressure is up to 10 bar (145 psi).

In addition to safety and cost savings, other advantages of the Quick-Connect system include:
• Quick and error-free assembly, without tools.
• Connection possible with plastic or metal components.
• Radial O-ring sealing.
• Large flow areas, resulting in low pressure drops.
• Hose line rotatable 360°.
• Reliable system proven in numerous mobile applications.
