High performance from stainless-steel couplings

June 18, 2020 By Ken Korane Leave a Comment

RYCO offers an extensive range of stainless steel couplings and adaptors that accommodate various types of hose while meeting performance, reliability and safety requirements.

Stainless steel couplings are recommended for use in harsh marine applications.

Stainless steel is a family of alloy steels containing 10.5% or more chromium, which offers high resistance to chemical attack and corrosion, along with strength and durability comparable to standard steel. RYCO reportedly designs and manufactures its products with 316 stainless steel, also known as “Marine Grade,” with excellent corrosion resistance due to added molybdenum content compared to other chromium-nickel steel alloys.

The durable stainless couplings and adaptors are recommended for operations that require extra protection from chemical corrosion such as in food production, packaging equipment subject to wash down, medical uses and for tough environments including marine applications.

The firm’s stainless steel couplings and adaptors have been engineered, validated and fabricated to ensure safety, reliability and long-term endurance. The comprehensive line is designed to work with an array of hydraulic hose types. Those include one-wire braid, two-wire braid, spiral, thermoplastic, textile braid, and Teflon. And the couplings provide an extensive range of end style choices such as BSPP, BSPT, NPT, JIC/JSEAL, metric, ORFS and SAE flanges.

RYCO also holds type approvals from various third parties for hoses and fittings used in matched hose assemblies, including hose assemblies fitted with stainless steel couplings used on ocean liners, navy vessels, and commercial catamarans and in submarine fleets.

Independently accredited to meet all certification requirements of the Marine Equipment Directive (MED), including severe fire exposure requirements, RYCO certified hose assemblies are designed to perform as expected during both normal and emergency operations.

The company maintains and continues to expand its range of DNV-GL, BV, ABS, and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) type-approved hose for hydraulic and fuel service on vessels. Hose assemblies that meet DNV, GL, BV, ABS, and USCG requirements are integral to the safe and reliable operation of these on-board systems, providing assurance that the assemblies deliver the required performance and reliability.

Ryco also offers compatible stainless steel adaptors. They include a wide selection of common threads and end connectors in styles such as straight, bulkhead, elbow and tee.
