ARGUS quick-couplings offer Top Coat protection

March 27, 2020 By Ken Korane Leave a Comment

For fast and straightforward connections of hydraulic hoses, Kuriyama of America, based in Schaumburg, Ill., offers Alfagomma’s ARGUS series of quick-disconnect couplings. The products comply with international standards ISO 7241-1 A & B, ISO 5675 and ISO 16028, having poppet and flat-face valves respectively. According to company officials, the standardized design ensures complete interchangeability with corresponding couplings currently in use.

ARGUS series of quick-disconnect couplings

Made from high-strength carbon steel as the base material, hardened in areas subject to wear, ARGUS couplings feature patented Top Coat chrome-III zinc plating. The proprietary surface treatment is based on a system of trivalent passivation which produces outstanding rust and corrosion resistance. For example, tested according to ASTM B117-03 and UNI ISO 9227 standards, Top Coat ensures over 1,000 hours of red rust protection.

The mechanical and fluid dynamic performance are maximized by means of specific geometries defined through FEM and CFD calculations, said the company. Additional extensive testing is carried out after production following the requirements of ISO 7241-2.

The wide-reaching product family includes the ISO-A range of true general-purpose quick release couplings, with sizes from 0.25 to 1.50 in. BSPP, NPTF and metric threaded connections, and working pressure up to 5,076 psi (350 bar). Agricultural machinery is the main application for ISO-A couplings.

ISO 7241-1 B series is more applicable in the industrial sector (pressures can reach 5,800 psi/400 bar), for equipment powered and controlled by hydraulic systems.

The flat-faced range is the optimal choice to avoid circuit contamination and oil leakage when connecting and disconnecting. Flat-faced couplings are widely used on construction equipment, but also in hostile environments where spillage can constitute a danger. They have sizes from 0.25 to 1.0 in., constant working pressure of 350 bar and minimal flow losses.

Screw quick couplings are also included in the ARGUS family. Connection under residual pressure is made possible by specific couplings with a poppet or flat-face valve. Further sizes and types, including customized multi-coupling systems, are available on request.

Kuriyama of America, in addition to being a leading manufacturer of hydraulic and industrial hose and related products, is the U. S. logistics and marketing partner of Alfagomma hydraulic and industrial hose products.
